Now That’s What I Call Stuart’s Favourite Music 102 –  Men Without Hats – I Love the ’80s

I always love hearing new music from classic 1980s bands that are still going today. There’s something refreshing about hearing a genuinely upbeat, melodic song in a world dominated by manufactured reality TV stars and the endless parade of Swift, Sheeran, and Bieber clones.

I’ve already featured a couple of tracks by Men Without Hats on my list before, but this one has been stuck in my head ever since I first heard it about a month ago.

I Love the 80’s is the lead single from their latest album On The Moon which was released (rather quietly it seems) on 14th November 2025. It’s a full-on anthem of the decade, celebrating everything that was great about the 1980s and packed full with nostalgia and fun.

I remember so much fun
Back in 1981
Ain’t no place I’d rather be
Except for 1983
Everybody felt alive
Back in 1985
Everything was just like heaven
It was 1987

Alright, the lyrics probably aren’t going to win any songwriting awards, but that’s not really the point. It’s catchy, upbeat, and ridiculously easy to find yourself humming for days afterwards — trust me, I’ve been doing exactly that for weeks.

I also love the little nods to some of the band’s earlier hits, including Pop Goes the World and The Safety Dance.

It’s a proper feel-good song — something I definitely need right now — and one that’s guaranteed to put a smile on the face of anyone who grew up in the 1980s.

I LOVE THE ’80s!
