This song is for my Mum who is currently stuck in hospital and not allowed visitors.
I originally wrote this track back in October 1999, and I remember playing it to her and Dad for the first time. She told me she liked it and thought it sounded like something that Steps or S Club 7 might play. I’m not entirely convinced about that, but the memory has always stayed with me.
27 years later, I’ve brought the song up to date and reimagined it the way I always wanted it to sound thanks to the power of AI and modern tools. I’ll post the original version in the comments so you can hear where it all began.
As the title suggests, it was inspired by the friends I had at the time and my hope that, no matter where life took us, we’d always remain friends. Over the years, some have sadly drifted away, while others I now rarely speak to. Life has taken us all in different directions, with our own families, careers and adventures. Yet the message behind the song remains unchanged. True friendship isn’t measured by how often we meet or talk, but by the connections we make and the memories we share. Time and distance may change our lives, but they don’t erase the impact people have on us.
