Like many people, I first came across Men Without Hats through their iconic hit “The Safety Dance,” but this cheerful song from 1987 has always had a charm of its own. Released as the lead single from their third studio album, Pop Goes the World, it’s one of those songs that’s really hard not to smile along with.
Interestingly, the track actually began life as an instrumental, very much in the spirit of Gershon Kingsley’s Popcorn, before lyrics were added at the suggestion of their producer.
While it went on to enjoy success in places like Canada, Austria, and South Africa, it never really caught on here in the UK unlike their more recognised Safety Dance — which is a bit of a shame, as it’s one of those feel-good tracks that deserves a lot more recognition.
Enjoy!
