Now That’s What I Call Stuart’s Favourite Music 88 – Red Box – Lean On Me (Ah-Li-Ayo)

Red Box produced some real gems during the 1980s, and two of my personal favourites are For America (which I’ve already featured here) and this one — Lean On Me.

Released as the third single from their debut album The Circle & The Square, Lean On Me (Ah-Li-Ayo) became the band’s biggest hit, climbing all the way to number 3 in the UK Singles Chart in October 1985.

Listening to it now takes me straight back to the days of recording songs off the radio — fingers hovering over the pause button, trying to time it just right to avoid catching the DJ’s voice at the start or end of the track. A nostalgic ritual for so many of us growing up with cassette tapes and Top 40 countdowns.

Enjoy this blast down memory lane (well, my memory lane!)
