Apart from “This Town Ain’t Big Enough for Both of Us”, I never really paid much attention to the music of the Mael brothers.
A couple of years ago, I heard “When Do I Get to Sing ‘My Way'” for the first time, and I instantly thought it was a fantastic song. Since then, it’s become one of my favourite tracks.
Originally released in October 1994, it was the first single from Sparks’ sixteenth studio album, Gratuitous Sax & Senseless Violins. After two re-entries into the UK charts, it eventually reached No. 32.
And finally, a little piece of useless trivia! The woman who appears in the music video is musician and actress Christi Haydon. As well as being the drummer for Sparks during the 1990s, including the Gratuitous Sax & Senseless Violins tour, she also appeared as a non-speaking background performer in several episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation during Seasons 5 and 6. Well, there you go.
Enjoy!
