Here’s another track that brings back a flood of fond memories from the late 1990s. “Your Woman” by White Town has a wonderfully unusual sound that made it instantly recognisable, and was popular enough to reach number 1 in the UK charts back in January 1997.
Built around a sample from a 1930s song called My Woman by Lew Stone, the track stands out for its clever lyrical perspective — despite featuring male vocals, the song is written from a female point of view. Even more impressive is the fact that it was reportedly created using an Atari ST home computer and a cheap multitrack cassette recorder. Brilliant!
