We kick off 2026 with a bona fide classic from Howard Jones, released an incredible 43 years ago. “New Song” was Howard’s debut single and featured on his debut album Human’s Lib. It reached an impressive Number 3 in the UK charts, held off the top spot by Tracey Ullman’s “They Don’t Know” and Culture Club’s “Karma Chameleon”.
Like so much of Howard Jones’ music, this track is wrapped up in personal memories for me — hearing my sister playing it in the bedroom next door. Even now, it delivers an instant hit of nostalgia. A great song from a truly fantastic artist.
