I absolutely love this track. The film it came from, Electric Dreams, is honestly pretty terrible — and thankfully, the song ended up being far more memorable than the movie itself! It just oozes that unmistakable 1980s sound, with amazing synths from Giorgio Moroder.
Co-written by The Human League’s Philip Oakey and Italian composer and producer Giorgio Moroder, Together in Electric Dreams was released in September 1984. It made a modest debut at number 74 in the UK charts on the 22nd of September but quickly climbed the ranks. Just five weeks later, it peaked at number 3, held off the top spot only by Paul McCartney’s No More Lonely Nights and Wham!’s Freedom.
This song instantly transports me back to my childhood — it never fails to lift my mood whenever I hear it. It’s nostalgic, uplifting, and a perfect slice of ‘80s synth-pop magic and definitely deserves a place in my list. Enjoy!
