Now That’s What I Call Stuart’s Favourite Music 87 – Savage Garden – I Want You

It’s been quite a while since my last entry in the “Now That’s What I Call Stuart’s Favourite Music” series, so today I’m taking a trip back to the late 1990s with a track that holds a special place in my digital music history—it was the very first MP3 file I ever had!

Back then, the internet was still in its relatively early mainstream days, and the idea that an entire song could fit into a file under four megabytes felt nothing short of revolutionary.

There weren’t many tracks in the ’90s that truly made me stop and think, “Yeah, this is something special.” But Savage Garden’s “I Want You” was definitely one of them. Originally released on 27th May 1996, it didn’t reach its UK chart peak until June 1997, climbing to number 11. Honestly, it deserved to go much higher—but unfortunately, the country at the time seemed more obsessed with the likes of Hanson’s “MMMBop.”

Oh well, enjoy!
